Activities

The conference's activities were divided in the following parts:

Personal transformation:

With a spirit of openness, the first part involved a deep reflection on one’s own life histories and a broader discussion on transformation and learning experiences that had brought profound change in one’s life.

Transformative vision of education:

The second part built upon the groups understanding after the experience in the first part and was to articulate our transformative visions in education. This was also when groups could go through a meaning-making process and came up with a shared vision in education.

Application of our vision to ones learning context (both personal and institutional):

The third part was to identify the challenges and opportunities for transformative education within ones own personal context or institutional context. The purpose was to provide the opportunity for participants to identify key actions to effect positive changes.

Construction of personal action plans:

During the final part, participants came up with diverse personal and institutional action plans to further negotiate the realisation of our visions for education.

Sharing ideas and practices of transformative education:

Parallel to all the small group discussions, was a range of workshops and paper presentations. These seminal sessions opened up further debates on the well contested subject of transformative education from pedagogical and institutional perspectives.
